Just noticed that I phrased my response wrong. The holes in the instrument were slightly too big for one size of pegs, so I had to go up to the next biggest size and then ream the holes out for that size.

Arle is right,
On the antique gurdy I used smaller pegs, the 8 mm violin grip pegs. They were a little shorter, but that wasn't a problem. The first gurdy I installed the pegs on, had pegholes that were not wide enough. I didn't ream them out enough, so the pegs were a little too high in the pegbox. The string didn't wind, so I had to drill a hole in the side of the pegbox a little higher than the original hole to solve that problem.

They're as long as any violin or viola pegs. They're designed to essentially drop in as a replacement for a standard peg without any modification of the instrument. In my case, when I installed them I had holes just slightly too big and so had to ream the holes out to a larger size than what the instrument was designed for, but the length was not an issue at all. Having installed them, the only thing I would recommend now is that you drill out the string hole to a larger diameter before you install them. The holes aren't quite big enough for heavy drones unless you drill them out.
