Picture this: A cartoon of Jesus, with his pants down, smiling, raping a little boy. The caption above it reads Got Catholicism? Or how about a picture of a Rabbi with blood dripping from his mouth after bludgeoning a small Palestinian boy with a knife shaped like the Star of Davidthe caption reads The Devils Chosen Ones.
I wonder if people around the world would just consider this free speech? Of course, some would condone or agree with one, two or all three, while others would say its free speech, although they find it offensive and in poor taste. But do you honestly think media outlets such as the BBC, Le Monde, or any media outlet in Copenhagen would pick up these cartoons? The outrage would begin instantly and advertisers would pullout. Yet, those in Denmark and their supporters around Europe call it freedom of speech to have a cartoon of the prophet Mohammedwho is not supposed be depicted to prevent idolatry according to clerical interpretation of the Koranwith a turban shaped like a bomb on his head.

The freedom that hurts us Printing cartoons of Muhammad creates fear and insecurity in Muslims across Europe.
The battle is set, of religious extremism versus freedom of speech. These are the lines drawn, or so we are told, in the escalating tensions worldwide surrounding the printing of images of Muhammad in Denmark and elsewhere in Europe.
Although the media is only now picking up on this story, my inbox has been receiving messages about these cartoons for weeks. The messages range from high-pitched to very thoughtful, but not one of them says, "Yeah, whatever ... "

Very Nasty Globe and Mail Editorial
Please read the following Globe and Mail Editorial and respond. Letter to the Globe and Mail Editor can be sent via: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
There are numerous articles in our archives you can use as talking points to respond to this editorial. See: http://www.ymlp.com/pubarchive.php?montrealmuslimnews
We especially recommend these two articles:

and
http://www.ymlp.com/pubarchive_show_message.php?montrealmuslimnews+7122
The Globe also published an oped by Rex Murphy which is even more bombastic but we do not have online access to that article. In addition, yesterday the Globe published an oped by pro-gay activist and provocator Tarek Fatah which is yet another rather nasty piece of work. We also do not have online access to that article, but evenutally it will most likely be published on his website at: http://www.muslimcanadiancongress.org/
Their wild overreaction
Angry demonstrations in the streets. Official protests to European governments. Boycotts of Danish goods. Death threats against journalists. Over what? Twelve cartoons in a Danish newspaper. Whether or not you agree with decision by Jyllands-Posten to publish the cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, the reaction in the Islamic world has been far out of scale to any offence given. In the Gaza Strip, Palestinian gunmen besieged the offices of the European Union. In Jakarta, Muslim activists protested outside the embassy of Denmark and burned a Danish flag. In Pakistan, mobs of students shouted, "Death to Denmark."

Danish Cartoons: Islam vs. Freedom of _expression_?
Cartoons are doing what so many couldnt: Unifying Muslims across the globe. On the other hand, a growing number of brave freedom-fighters, led by journalists, are standing up to reaffirm the principle of free _expression_. And non-Muslims are wondering why this unified outrage is a no-show when it comes to seemingly more important issues such as beheadings, honour killings, and suicide bombings.
As a Muslim journalist, that puts me in a tough spot, doesnt it? Well, not really. Lets get the facts straight. What exactly is the issue?

Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain Demands Retraction and Cessation of Offensive Caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
We demand that European governments exert pressure on their media outlets to retract the offensive caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), apologise for the offence caused and guarantee no further repetition of such abuse.
We demand sincere and robust intellectual debate regarding Islam and the West, not insults, draconian laws and vilification.

Syrians Torch Danish, Norway Embassies over Cartoon
Several thousand Syrian demonstrators set the Danish and the Norwegian embassies on fire, Saturday, February 4, 2006, in protest at the publishing of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad by European newspapers. The protest marked an escalation in the Muslim world's fury over the cartoons, which have been reprinted in a number of European publications. One depicted Prophet Mohammad wearing a turban resembling a bomb. The fire badly damaged the Danish embassy's building, a Reuters witness said. Firefighters put out the blaze.

Zionists re-act to Hamas opeds in Washington Post and LA Times
Hamas leader and spokesperson Khaled Masha'al and Mousa Abu Marzouk recently had their op-eds published in the LA Times And Washington Post in the wake of the recent Hamas win in the Palestinian elections.
See Khaled Masha'al's oped at:
http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-meshal1feb01,0,4722412.story?coll=la-news-comment-opinions
and Mousa Abu Marzouk's oped at:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/30/AR2006013001209.html
Not suprisingly, the zionists have reacted negatively by claiming that "Hamas is flooding U.S. media outlets." Just imagine that, two published articles, which outlines Hamas's position, constitutes a flooding of the media!!! What would we call the hundreds of articles and opeds published on a daily basis reflecting the zionist position? A deluge perhaps?

Hamas vows it will never recognize Israel
Defying Arab and Western pressure, Hamas said on Friday it would never recognize Israel but might be willing to negotiate terms for a temporary truce with the Jewish state. Khaled Meshaal, the top leader of Hamas which won last week's Palestinian parliamentary elections, made the offer to Israel ahead of negotiations between Hamas and President Mahmoud Abbas over the shape of the next government.
MMN Note: So that makes Hamas and the zionist occupation regime equal in one respect because the zionist regime has consistently demonstrated it will not recognize Palestine and the Palestinian people.
http://www.dailystar.com.lb/article.asp?article_ID=21966&categ_ID=2&edition_id=10
Haniyya said that Hamas' conditions for a long-term truce included an Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank as well as its release of all Palestinian prisoners.
