Religious Coercion: Lies they spread about Islam
These days it has become almost comical to see pen-pushing zealots vying to draw our attention to prove how much (actually, how little) they know about Islam. Every John Doe now seems to have an expert opinion about Islam. And most of these opinions tell more about the writers mentality -- which are quite often prejudicial, anti-Muslim and hateful -- than Islam.

These Cartoons Don't Defend Free Speech, They Threaten It
I think therefore I am, said the philosopher. Fine. But I think, therefore I speak? No way.
Nobody has an absolute right to freedom. Civilisation is the story of humans sacrificing freedom so as to live together in harmony. We do not need Hobbes to tell us that absolute freedom is for newborn savages. All else is compromise.
Should a right-wing Danish newspaper have carried the derisive images of Muhammad? No. Should other newspapers have repeated them and the BBC teasingly flashed them to prove its free-speech virility? No.

Cartoon dispute is about bigotry, not freedom
Having read a good deal of the media coverage about the derogatory cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad, I find it quite strange that the issue has been presented in the context of "freedom of speech." Never before have I seen European newspapers rushing to pour more oil on the flames that have erupted among the European Muslim populace. Indeed, such "freedom of speech" is quite contrary to rational thought. Newspapers seem to be rushing to outdo each other, with the net result being more anger among visible Muslim minorities. This action speaks volumes about Europe's biased stance toward its 15 million Muslims and it seems that Samuel Huntington's "clash of civilizations" thesis may very well ring true there. A frightful thought.

Wed better learn to empathize with the enemy
This past Christmas, my son gave me a CD entitled The Fog Of War, a documentary about former U.S. Secretary of Defense during the Vietnam War, Robert McNamara. In this must-see documentary, the 85-year-old gives us 11 lessons of war, none more important then the first: empathize with the enemy.
In a Feb. 2 opinion piece, Andrew Smith worries about history repeating itself in Iran and equates the present tensions in the area to Hitler and Nazism. It is a comparison that has very little to do with the present crisis, and any effort to suggest that it has is to deny the real problems and will lead us to a potential catastrophe that will make Iraq look like a Sunday school picnic.

Cartoons are a purposeful provocation
EUROPEAN MEDIA PROVOKES MUSLIMS TO INFLAME ZIONIST "CLASH OF CIVILIZATIONS"
Under the guise of free speech, a leading Danish newspaper published a dozen provocative anti-Islamic cartoons clearly designed to offend Muslims. The predictable result has greatly increased the possibility of violence and left Denmark in a costly and dangerous predicament.

Muslim Protests Against Anti-Muhammad Caricatures - Juan Cole
Several readers have asked what I think about the protests among Muslims against the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad published by a Danish newspaper.
Of course people are upset when their sacred figures are attacked! But the hurt is magnified many times when the party doing the injuring is first-world, and the injured have a long history of being ruled, oppressed and marginalized. Moreover, most Muslims live in societies with strong traditions of state censorship, so they often assume that if something appears in the press, the government allowed it to do so and is therefore culpable

Clash of civilisations - manipulation by the media.
How has the Pentagon and the CIA, together with its friends in Israel, managed to stir a clash between Moslems and the West?
Now, before you plunge that spear into the guy trying to plunge a spear into you, BOTH of you stop and think for a moment. If the Christians and Muslims kill each other off, WHO is left to inherit the world? WHO gains if you kill each other off? WHO is laughing at you at how stupid you are and how easy it was to trick you into removing each other from history?

Grievances and Consequences - The Terrorist in the Mirror
"Terror" is a term that rightly arouses strong emotions and deep concerns. The primary concern should, naturally, be to take measures to alleviate the threat, which has been severe in the past, and will be even more so in the future. To proceed in a serious way, we have to establish some guidelines.

The Failure of Citizenship
We allow the most atrocious lies uttered by political and moral prostitutes to go unchallenged. These lies are endlessly recycled in the commercial media until they become ingrained in the public conscience as truth. Worse than burying our heads in the sand, we bury them up our collective ass. How do you like the view?

Plane Forced Down Near Bush Ranch
Two fighter jets forced a small plane to land after the pilot flew too close to President Bush's ranch in central Texas while he was spending the weekend there.
But of course on 9-11, while the hijacked passengers jets flew out to Ohio and back before attacking New York and Washington DC, no fighter jets could be found to reach them in time, even though the hijacked jets flew right over several Air Force bases.

NSA Snoop Program Toll: One FBI Patsy
According to FBI head honcho Robert Mueller, the NSAs J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Vacuum Cleaner approach to violating the Constitution hasnt nabbed any Al Qaeda agents in the U.S. since the Sept. 11 attacks, the New York Daily News reports. Mueller told the Senate Intelligence Committee that his agents get a number of leads from the NSA, but he made it clear Osama Bin Ladens henchmen werent at the end of the trail, thus demonstrating the obvious fact the massive snoop program is not designed to prevent terrorism.

5,000 Americans Spied On In "Terrorist Surveillance" Program, Nearly All Cleared As Suspects...
Intelligence officers who eavesdropped on thousands of Americans in overseas calls under authority from President Bush have dismissed nearly all of them as potential suspects after hearing nothing pertinent to a terrorist threat, according to accounts from current and former government officials and private-sector sources with knowledge of the technologies in use. Bush has recently described the warrantless operation as "terrorist surveillance" and summed it up by declaring that "if you're talking to a member of al Qaeda, we want to know why." But officials conversant with the program said a far more common question for eavesdroppers is whether, not why, a terrorist plotter is on either end of the call. The answer, they said, is usually no.

Traces of poison
Acre was to be the next Zionist target. The Zionists besieged the city from the land side, and started showering the population with a hail of mortar bombs day and night. Famous for its historical walls, Acre could stand the siege for a long time. The city water supply comes from a nearby village, Kabri, about 10kms to the north, through an aqueduct. The Zionists injected typhoid in the aqueduct at some intermediate point which passes through Zionist settlements.

New Afghanistan is myth. Hundreds thousands returnees leave again to find jobs.
As British troops prepare to tackle the Taliban's remnants, hundreds of thousands of jobless Afghan refugees who returned home to start a new life are queueing up to leave again.
An unforgiving wind howls across the Shomali Plains from the distant snowcaps of the Hindu Kush. Overhead, a US Chinook helicopter disappears into the dark mass of clouds, an armoured Jeep dangling from its grey hull, straining against the winch cable. It's just past 5am and the roar of the rotors momentarily drowns out the first call to prayer of the day echoing from the minarets of Kabul's Ismailia mosque. Within minutes, other muezzins follow suit, in a bleary-eyed symphony across the city.
