Okay, somebody please correct me if I'm understanding any of this
incorrectly.

An HLTV proxy connects to the server, and the game dll can handle setting it
up as a spectator and start sending it messages of whatever's going on in
the game. Anybody connecting to the proxy essentially taps into that
message stream and handles it with their own client and spectator HUD.

However, you often want a new spectator to get a specific set of messages to
catch them up to what's happened when they were gone. Is there some sort of
way to set a routine that proxy runs when a new spectator connects to it? I
haven't seen anything like that yet. Am I missing something?

As it is now, it's like flipping to a baseball game to check in on the
score, but having to wait until someone scores to get that information.

That is, of course, unless I'm missing something. Anybody know?
