When you shoot out a trace line you specify how far its going, ie 1000 units.
The end point of a traceline is stored in the trace result's 'flFraction' variable, ie: tr.flFraction The distance from the player to the surface is found by doing the following: TraceLength * flFraction; An flFraction value of .5 means the end point was 50% of the length of the traceline. Be sure to check that it did hit something though, ie: if (tr.pHit) // it did hit something.
