Sure, but you can't program a whole engine in assembler, such a commercial
release needs to be as portable as possible, aiming at the widest range of
potential buyers. That's why there'r pieces of assemly code compiled into
the final version of some softwares. And for games there are also some
optimizations like hardware acceleration of graphics and sounds, especific
instructions on a graphics card for optmizing graphic f/x, better algorithm
implementations, and so on.  There are a number of different ways to optmize
a piece of code to make it run faster, while using all the potential and
ease of a powerful, high level programming language such as C++! :)
