does anyone have any ideas about how to combat aimbots in 1.6?

If there was a good way of doing this, someone would have already come out with something that does it.

Internet multiplayer games that run on the PC all rely on some amount of trust in the client. As long as the client is trusted by the server, there is no foolproof way of preventing someone from altering how the client behaves. You can attempt to make the client alteration as difficult as possible using all sorts of methods (encryption, run-time code modifications, constantly changing client executables, etc.), but in the end, if someone is dedicated enough to want to change how the client behaves, this can't be completely stopped.

Some ideas:

a)- Adding a menu to vote kick cheaters ( The Big Brother game for all!)
b)- Detect not-smooth angle changes, and FIX forcing some smoothing... maybe adding a bit of randowness if detect something strange, except people that change is angle 90 or 180 because that can be right. This is posible?
c)- Download the mod client gamelogic, like actually you download models or sounds.
d)- A police dll that examine the comp against evilware. Can be downloadable with c.
e)- Strict server netcode that send the minimul needed data. You can run tracelines to hidde players or add another way to hidden not-visible players. Thats against wallhacks, of course.
f)- Virtuallice reality. Adding a error precision to all players position, shifting in time or whatever, to make exact firing imposible, bur human brain firing posible.

a,b,... can be implemented mod side, so a mod can make aimbots dificult or unusable.

c,d,.. is a engine feature. I dont know a word about PunkBuster, but looks like a D implementation.

e, ...engine feature, can generate more problems. buggy
f, ...vaporware x buzzwords

Stop cheaters is a art.
