I was talking about Valve supporting the modding community. I don't know anything about Valve's technical support for players, because I don't ever call tech support. I'm not concerned about that. I'm talking about Valve supporting an SDK, which is exactly what they seem to be doing. They've already released some basic tools with code documentation. Also, I disagree with you when you when you say that the game is old and outdated. There is a certain level of visual detail at which every additional level costs exponentially more resources to develop, and doesn't really look all that better. Valve is about at that place with HL2, but they've also developed things that no other moddable engine has that take it a step further. For example, their video camera system and their facial expression and walking systems will be freakishly useful for third party developers, and now Valve has raised the bar in these areas... every new engine will need to support these things or get no love from the modding community. Not only that, but every one of these features is story-driven and has a purpose in making the game experience more fun. They were not added simply for the hell of it, they are an integral part of the game. The graphics in HL2 are great, but are there so that you respond to them, not just so that they look pretty. They have a purpose. Anyways, Half-Life 2 is fun, what more do you want? Does the engine have to be visually spectacular for the game to be fun? Is the purpose of a game to have fun or to drool all over your keyboard? Wait... don't answer that question. *wipes off his keyboard* -- Jorge "Vino" Rodriguez _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlcoders
