I've just found out that using the following two lines works just as
good (and probably is more gracefully as to cut off the API directly).

SteamClient()->ReleaseUser( GetHSteamPipe(), GetHSteamUser() );
SteamClient()->BReleaseSteamPipe( GetHSteamPipe() );
