If it's orienting via a controller, that may very well be. Simple enough to add 
a bone, and experiment.

The addition of a third person mode may also be an issue... In most 
multi-player games, the client model doesn't actually "exist" for the local 
client, when in first person - if it's orienting via the client model's 
controller, it may only operate while in third person.

Just wild stabs though, I'm not sure how you're working the interaction.
