Im sorry ace if you have run into problems and do not like the stuff that
has been added, but I love it. The voice stuff is awsome and as more people
get theirs working properly it will become even better. Next, while playing
with a modem is the only option for many more and more users are getting
broadband. Modem users are quickly becoming the majority. Would you have
preferred them to keep making carburated cars instead of fuel injected
because its simpler and easier to work with? I think the benefits and
advantages of progress far outweigh the loses in this case. Yes HL is taking
more cpu and bandwidth than ever before, but look at what you get for that
bandwidth.
I have also heard alot of people saying "1108 sux, 1107 was rock stable"
blah blah blah. This is said every release. I'm sure on the next release we
will hear this same statement. The point being, most people are not having
problems. If you wish to run 1016 for some reason(what is the deal with this
version, I was not on the list when this version was out) then setup a lan
server and go at it.
Onto sound, despite the myriad complaints about it not working alot of
people have got it working. Keep at it and you will figure it out. 9 times
in 10 it is config on the client.
OpenGL: to tell you the truth I would rather play in Direct3D and loose the
marginal quality of OpenGL to not play with wallhackers. They piss me off to
no end. I would like to see servers setup that specificly tailor to hackers
and maybe they would leave us alone. I kind of like this Hacks Allowed
server design. It would make for interesting game play and would level the
playing field a bit. What you guys think?
Bring on the flaming.

Valve, this opionion, while valid, does not represent the majority.
Please continue to move forward.
