Something I think list members should keep in mind with regard to on or off
topic threads, is that in the client/server paradigm, the client is useless
without the server.

Thus, regarding the recent 1108 update, some of the issues it has created,
the nature of this list, AND Valve's direct participation in this list, I
think these types of questions are well suited here.

It is my opinion (and I would hope the opinion of other members as well)
that this list is a resource for all people involved with serving or
adminning HL servers. If a member has a client question or issue, why not
discuss it and help with the resolution? Isn't the purpose of this list to
help others who are having problems? I think many of us have forgotten
that...

I may be wrong, but I don't know of any mailing list or forum for client
questions that could have successfully handled this issue for him. If this
is not the case, please let me know where to go for issues of this type.

I've found over the last year that this list is the best source of knowledge
for ALL aspects of HL, not just HLDS.

Before slamming someone for being what you consider [OT], think first about
what other avenue the poster might pursue to get his/her question/issue
answered or resolved. If you can't suggest one, don't hammer the poster for
being supposedly [OT]. If you can, direct the poster of the [OT] message to
the appropriate location he/she should visit to resolve the problem. This
list exists to help other gamers, not to discourage them. I was kind of
hoping that with Deacon being gone from the list now, that this kind of
mentality would gradually disappear from the list...

If none of the other list members feels like answering the question, they
won't.
