It's important that you understand the difference in price between a
regular xeon and a xeon mp. The xeon mp's allow 4 or more processors,
but cost 10x as much.

Subject: Re: [hlds] Hyperthreading

Yeah why not,I have 26 grand or more laying around for that versus half
the cost for a dual HT!!

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=555&l=en&oc=P
E6650PAD&s=biz

Configure that with a quad processor with 3 gigs of ram and basic
everything else and tell me you
can do that at a cost effective solution for a small game server
community or gaming host for that matter.
Actually most people who have game servers with their own servers I
belive either have a smaller box,
or they are renting from a datacenter.Because either way you go,building
a dual or even a quad xeon is
way to expensive for anyone not making money off it.Dual system dell
6650 can cost upwards of 15k for
a decent box where as a quad system is like 24k plus. When I saw the
prices on those,my mouth dropped
as I was thinking of buying a box and colocating it.But I believe I'll
keep my Dual Xeon I have rented. Its
way cheaper.......just my thoughts on that..............
