I have a lot of users that are complaining that they can't connect to my server
because the Map they have on their system is not the same. I end up having to tell
them to delete the map then join the server to get the one we use.

You'll probably find that users can no longer find the maps on their system, particularly with clean installs, so they won't be able to delete the map from their system and download it again.

At a guess I would say that the maps have vanished into those ruddy
great gcf files. I have to say, chucking everything into one file like
that has got to be the daftest thing I've seen in a long while! It makes
debugging and server side repairs near impossible, plus if one thing
breaks in the gcf file (like the map files), then the user has to delete
the file and download it all over again! Yeah broadband is getting to
be more prevalent, but a 400mb download still takes a while even on a
1.5mb connection.

Well, I had it happen with someone and de_cpl_mill...It kept kicking him saying the
file was not the same or something similar to that.

You can fix this by making the maps available seperate from the server.
It means that the users have to download the bsp file via the web rather
than letting steam do the work and if the maps get updated on the server
they may have to download it all over again, but it better than it not
working at all. :o]

Hope that helps

Stephen
