[ Converted text/html to text/plain ] Honestly, I think some people are full of crap and will complain no matter what Valve do.
Seriously, there are plenty of things Valve fuck up that are worth complianing about without distracting them with this crap as well! FYG there are only 1440 Minutes in a day! If your server was so friggin good, why are are you turning over 4000 players a day? All a high turnover indicates is that a lot of people join and leave your server very quickly, which probably means that most people think its CRAP!! Moreover, it is my opinion that the thing that splinters the community the most, is the single servers that keep popping in and out of existence and/or changing their Name/IP because the server is run off somebodys home connection. Furthermore what is worse for the CS community is the numbers of CS servers who are run by people who cannot even manage to do the simple mathematics that is required to setup their servers correctly. If you are going to do a job you should damn well do the job right! Its the 21st century now, and if you cannot host anything up to a 20 player server (32 player servers have their own problems that the more experienced of us are more than familiar with) with what are effectively LAN rates (sv_maxrate 20000, sv_maxupdaterate 100 & default pingboosted settings) on the internet these days, get out the game, you are just providing yet another crap server for people to complain about! ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Jay Carter" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RE: [hlds] New serverlist BAD for the community Date: Sun, 29 Aug 2004 21:15:36 -0400 Im sorry but that simply isn't true. I've run a successful CS server for many years now and back in January I was forced to change IPs to something with a .200 last digit. My server went from 3000+ connections a day down to about 150, which was mostly regulars joining to see if they could get anyone else to come play. A couple of months ago I changed my IP to a .1 last digit and within 1 minute (literally), the server was full. I went from 150 players a day to 4000 a day in one week. Given that dramatic a change, I guess there must not be very many "smart" people playing CS. I don't see how this new system can be good for anyone, both players and server admins alike. All it's going to do is cause people to join crappy cable and DSL servers because they're the first ones to come up on the list and leave the people who are spending small fortunes every month to keep their servers up out in the cold. My server is based in Texas and in Texas Comcast uses 12. and 24. IPs. It's going to take a lot of listing to get up to a 67. server. This is a bad thing for everyone, despite what you claim. It SHOULD have been left like it was. While it may not have been the best solution, everyone at least KNEW what the situation was and as such could deal with it. Putting a bunch of DSL and Cable servers at the top of the list for the majority of the players isn't doing anyone any good. Another thing to consider here is that the ingame browser will NOT list all the servers. It only shows roughly half of them (Unless this has been fixed). So, people with an "out of range" IP simply won't show up on the list at all. Bad, bad move here, Valve. You're punishing the people trying to provide a good playing environment for your games. You're an idiot.
