I had a Netgear RP614 (actually, I still have it). I ran it for quite a while with no ports forwarded. I have one sitting under my desk, I'll get it out and hook it up and play with it this weekend if I get a chance. I used to have a Westell 2100, that did the same. I had the firewall disabled with all routers. My Cisco 678 likewise did this, and if I was to telnet in and SHOW NAT I could actually see the port that 27015 was forwarded to. I may have to retract my statement about the Linksys router doing this because come to think of it I'm not 100%. I'm running alchemy firmware in both routers, and need to research it a bit.
Oh and What models you say exhibit this behavior? I would like to know so I can do some packet sniffing and see what happens, if they actually are doing this.
