3) How much bandwidth per user do you allow for a HL1 server

For an HL1 valve or OP4 server, I have found over the years that you can
safely host up to 6 players on a 256k/256k connection. 7 players will lag
intermittently, and 8 players is unplayable. So, 256/6 = 42.6k per player.
This represents a worse case bandwidth consumption. Average consumption is
usually a lot less but the peaks will reach this level. If you watch
bandwidth consumption while the server is in operation, you will find that
upload bandwidh fluctuates considerably according to the current map and
what the players are doing. The 42.6k per player, therefore, is not how much
bandwidth will be consumed, but represents the peak value of bandwidth
consumption. If you don't have that much bandwidth available, your server
will lag from time to time as your available bandwidth is maxed out.

I played around with TFC for a while and noticed that it used less
bandwidth. I do not, however, have any metrics to support that claim. I'm
sure there are a few TFC server operators still out there that can report on
their finding.

Subject: [hlds] Server requirements

I find myself being asked quite often about what CPU/net requirements it
takes to run a server. I have answers based upon our internal
playtesting but I would also like to hear what you guys use in the wild.

So, my questions are:
1) What speed CPU do you use for a 32 player HL1 server (CS 1.6)
2) What speed CPU do you use for a 32 player Source server (CS:S)
3) How much bandwidth per user do you allow for a HL1 server
4) How much bandwidth per user do you allow for a Source server
5) How much difference is there in these requirements for other mods?
