That sounds like a sync problem with the server synchronizing with the
player. That can be caused by a few things, general packet loss, bad
connection, sound over a dial up line, or even a hack tahts causing
it... it sounds like the server got flooded with sync requests and
packets without being able to reply appropriately and finally timed the
player out.

At the beginnning of a CS:S scrim last night on my own server, 9 of
the 10 players' pings jumped up to around 350. The remaining player
stayed around 15-20. Immediately after he dropped, all of our pings
fell back to what we were pinging before the occurance. About 1 or 2
rounds in to him rejoining, again, 9 of the 10 players' pings jumped
up to around 350. And once again, once he dropped, the other players'
pings dropped as well.

The other team acknowledged it was a problem with him, and I saw
nothing wrong with the server at all. I saw no errors or warnings in
the server console and the CPU usage never rose above 40%.

Anyone ever experience anything similar, and if so, is there anything
I can do to protect my servers from this happening again?
