Weird. It's quite noticeable. It used to be that 6 players would bounce
against my 220k limit. Now they are bouncing around 140-150k.
Hmm...what has changed. I'm now running Win server 2003 (because I got it
free from school MSDNAA lol). I'm running on an AMD board, but I've done
that for a long time. I have more memory, 768MB. All of these should make
some difference, but none of them should effect bandwidth. The box usually
runs at 10% cpu with about 400MB of unused ram. I'm running a mixture of
stock valve maps and the usuall oddball maps - mostly old DM classics, plus
about 50 OP4_this or that maps that I've found here or there. Most of the
mario and kitkat maps.
I also am now running AMX and adminmod. I use AMX for a map by map config
because I couldn't get that feature to work in adminmod. They actually
co-exist very well together, and are quite stable.
I guess I'll keep watching...not sure I have a good explanation, need to
watch more maps with more players and see what happens. I'm upping my
bandwidth to 512 next week, and I'm going to try to squeeze 12 players out
of that.

I'm not seeing any differences on my HLDM server, I'm seeing the same
uplink
bandwidth utilization that I have had for a very long time now (IE: 9
players are max on a 320K uplink or avg 35.5K per player).
You might be seeing a secondary effect caused by many players having
better
computers and faster internet connections so that 25% might have been
extra
and now it's "normal" ... whatever that means.
If you were not using a high-res timer before and now you are (assuming a
win32 box) that also might account for a little extra margin.

Subject: [hlds] HL1 Bandwidth requirements and recent updates
I've noticed for a while now that the amount of upload bandwidth on my
server has been significantly reduced. I use DuMeter to watch bandwidth,
and
upload bandwidth is about 25% or so less then what it used to be. My
server
settings have not changed for a long long time. Was there some update
recently that reduced bandwidth usage? Has anyone else noticed this?
Example: I have 5 players in my server right now. Upload is about 110
kbps.
It used to bounce around 150k with 5 players. I know this varies from map
to
map, but overall this has become very noticeable.
