I'd be more than happy to go srcds, except to the best of my knowledge,
The
Specialists won't run via HL:SRC

Anyway....so I just want to have the windows media player open? I lost FPS
when I did that....

Yes, the resolution timer does apply to hlds as well. I think part of
the reason that's what's on Whispers site is that hlds is slooooowwwwly
fading out to srcds (and maybe bf2/cod2 to a much lesser extent)

Uhm.....I'm catching a lot of stuff referring to srcds.....does the same
apply in both directions?

You should be running something to adjust the resolution timer. In lack
of
whisper being here, I'll do it for him.

In the instructions, one of the first things is on adjusting the timer.

No, the only thing I'm running on it is the mysql server (needed for
the
plugins I'm using) and about 50% of the time running the game client
as
well
(the server actually gets more constant performance when I'm in it
instead
of when I'm not)

Are you changing the windows resolution timer? (like running a flash
app or windows media player)

Is there an app that'll log it all? From what I'm seeing in the hlds
statistics tab there's no major spikes in ping or anything else, but
rather
that it completely bottomed out on FPS to single digits for about 2
seconds,
went back up to 70fps then bottomed again and repeated about 5 times
then
was fine....aside from that one jagged spike everything was above
40fps....

Also do you log cpu, net, and disk activity during these lag spikes

How many players are you trying to run from that?

Hmm....nope, that's not the problem then.....anyone got any ideas
why
I
get
random ping spikes from mid 20's to over 800 with a 3.5ghz
processor,
gig
of
ram, 10K RPM SATA Raptors, and 5mbit/768kbit connection? (no net
dependant
stuff in the background either)
