Thanks for your questions Jason. Do you (or does anyone) know of any useful debuging I can enable to trace map changes?
Here are some basic specs (and before anyone 'helps' me by saying my hardware is not good enough, we are discussing hlds:cz not Source): Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional: 5.0.2195 SP 4 Build 2195 System Manufacturer MSI System Model MS-7021 System Type X86-based PC Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 1 AuthenticAMD ~1333 Mhz Total Physical Memory 1,048,048 KB Available Physical Me 440,392 KB Total Virtual Memory 3,566,816 KB Available Virtual Mem 2,409,720 KB Page File Space 2,518,768 KB Note: the system is using two 40g SATA drives in a RAID-1 configuration (another note for 'helpers', I am using RAID-1 to lessen the pain of a complete reinstall, the RAID-1 performance is fantastic; so the speed factor of RAID-0 was not the target). I really don't think it is my hardware thought. I ran SiSoftware-Sandra and it did not find any issues. Sometimes the maps changes within 15 seconds and sometimes it takes over a minute. I have not clocked each map to see if it is always the same on a given map. Right now I have the game time set very high (two hours) just to avoid the pain of the map change so often. I run these maps, usually with 9 bots on normal: cs_office_cz de_aztec_cz de_chateau_cz de_dust_cz de_dust2_cz de_inferno_cz Thanks again. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jason O. Is it possible that you have a hard drive going bad? Seems like I remember someone on the list having the same problem a while back and his hard drive was going bad. 60 Sec is a long map load especially if it is a stock map. How often do you restart the actual server not just HLDS? I've found I have to reboot my server a minimum of weekly or HLDS starts getting really slow to respond and players pings go sky high. Thanks for asking Jason. No, I don't run any custom maps. I play on the server from a LAN based PC, my friend connects from the WAN and we both experience the same (sometimes over 60 second lag) during map changes. In fact, I am just playing on my server and once again it seems I am stuck forever... I just don't get it. I have zero cpu load and tons of memory free (on both the client and the server)... So much for my earlier thoughts... -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jason O. I have used both the upload and the download on and off and have seen no difference in the map load times. I think the load times would only differ for the players that have to download the current map not everyone. Do you run customs that would require frequent downloads? If you do you might want to provide a URL so they can download them prior to joining the game server. I've found that having a lot of people downloading a map does take a toll on the server. First I wanted to say thanks to everyone, especially the "experts" who responded to my original request (on 04/17/2006) for assistance on this one... *sigh* Anyway, the problem turned out to be that sv_allowdownload was enabled, and I do not have any maps to download on my server. In fact, the sv_downloadurl is "" so I am really amazed the sv_allowdownload setting had any function during map changes. But it did. My guess is the all of the clients experienced a timeout waiting for resources from my server, and when nothing came they finally pulled from the steam servers. If anyone does actually know about this I would love to hear about it. Thanks, Chorizo Omelet Come and play! http://gs1.ender.us _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
