"Apples and oranges." ... Another metaphor. lol.

Valve could make the argument that we are running "their" server side software,
which they provided for free, and if you don't like the arrangement... you are
free to write your own. Maybe we should cut the guys from Valve a break every
now and then. We both get something out of the arrangement... we get some very
buggy but otherwise pretty cool server software and they get a place where
their paying customers can play. We can argue till the cows come home about
which side has the sweeter deal but truth be known... we all get something out
of it. Maybe we should take an honest look at why we (server admins) run
servers in the first place... I'd give odds it's not because we're
philanthropists for Valve. I think it more likely that we run servers, and
incur all the expenses associated with running a server, because we like to run
servers... to me, running a server is it's own reward. Oh well... to each his
own.

Valve please take note... if running client side ads is giving the server
admins fits... maybe you should reconsider or open a dialog or do
something/anything that is not perceived by server admins as having ads rammed
down the throats of your most ardent supporters. At the very least your PR
skills need some honing.

Naah. Movie theaters charge their viewers for watching the movie.

Apples and oranges.
