I have a second and third client on different machines that I just beta
updated and they both appear to run ok, although one of them crashed out the
first time I tried to connect to a server. The second time it connected and
ran fine.

The system that crashes has a 6800 Ultra with the latest vid drivers, the
ones that don't crash have a 6800Ultra or a 5900Ultra.

One symptom on the machine that crashes is that I get a splash background
but never see any text before it crashes.
I tried (with no change) -dev -condebug -toconsole -window -dxlevel 70

ah, the condebug helped and gave me this:

Okay, we will check it out.

I can confirm that the Beta client CSS crashes when it gets to the
splash

HL2DM and DOD:S are ok.
