The problem is that stock servers get boring after a while - having 
played one map on W:ET for almost a year with no variation I can relate 
to this.

Having variations in the gameplay makes the game a lot more fun. An 
example of this is every now and again on our server we run special 
events where we change something major (ie: amount of items an engineer 
can build) for a few hours. It can be quite fun as a spy mass-sapping 
sentries (never underestimate the fun of mindless entertainment).
