Although our ServerChecker v3.x is not being actively developed at the moment; it is rock solid for the games it supports. Especially HLDS/ SRCDS.
It will *not* randomly turn your gameservers on and off just like that. It will only happen if.. a) the process dies, or.. b) the gameserver stops responding to status queries (or something prevents SC from querying it). The issue you are experiencing is therefore more likely related to instability issues with your gameserver. If they do not come back up, it can be due to a serverchecker misconfiguration (e.g. insufficient start time for a server that is slow to restart), an issue with the gameserver that causes it to continuously crash/go into a crash-loop, or for an example windows error reporting being enabled - which causes an error dialogue to pop up and prevent a restart of the gameserver. I would therefore recommend that you take a serious look at what might be causing your servers to crash / the restart to fail, instead of wasting your time looking for alternative monitoring tools. If you have been running the servers for quite some time without issues, and the problem has started occurring recently, you might want to check any recently added plugins (disabling them temporarily to see if that helps) - and also make sure your server is hardened against exploits that can crash your server. There are *a lot* of them for SRCDS these days (if that's what you are running) - see http://wiki.alliedmods.net/SRCDS_Hardening - for more information. The RCON one seems to be particularly common, used both intentionally and unintentionally (players w/ binds/ scripts for war management and similar that are accidentally fired off). Feel free to pop by our forum (dumbclan.co.uk) and ask for help in the Development section, and I will be happy to run you through some basic troubleshooting. Good luck. :) - TeX.
