Tried that, still no update. I'm going to do a clean install and see if
it gives me a different file set.
Can anyone verify the version for the beta versus the version for the
public build?
Is it possible that Valve just didn't get around to actually making the
beta available via steamcmd?

The content log shows nothing was downloaded or updated, and an
examination of the files likewise shows nothing changed. This was run
in a directory that had a clean non-beta install from earlier today.
