Time to start asking questions about the Steam platform. :-)
1. I've seen a Steam SDK mentioned on a few web sites, and supposedly it is
available on the Steam web site, http://www.steampowered.com, but heck if I
can find a download for it. The FAQ doesn't mention it and I can't search
for anything in the forum with less than 4 characters. ("SDK" and
"Development kit" are unsearchable). Is it publically available? Does the
SDK contain information that would answer questions #2 and #3 below?
2. Is it possible for a 3rd party app to connect to a server the way it
always has? Or must it launch "steam.exe" and pass an appropriate command
line? If so, I assume that "steam.exe" is replacing "hl.exe"?
3. If it must launch "steam.exe", what would be an appropriate command
line? Using the Steam client, I chose the option to generate a desktop
shortcut for TFC and a "3rd party mod", Firearms. The command line for TFC
was:
D:\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 20
and the icon path pointed to:
d:\steam\Steam\Games\Team Fortress Classic.ico
For Firearms the command line was:
D:\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 70 -game firearms
and the icon path was:
d:\steam\Steam\Games\Firearms.ico
Is there some documentation for this? Where do the "magic numbers" 20 and
70 come from? Where would an external app find the information to know what
mods are installed, which ones are "3rd party" mods and which icon is
associated with the game?
Thanks!
Terry
