Did you try both sound modes?
If the default didn't work, try the other one.
BTW, there is also a bug (at least in CS) that sometimes reverses your
sound so right speaker comes in left and vice versa (usually solved with
a restart of the game).
Don't confuse that bug with C-D messing up sound.
