Hmm.. news?

I dont know if any news software still save the articles one by one
anymore. Most of them saves it to a binary spool file. At least diablo,
INN and the products from highwind (cyclone, typhoon, twister...) uses it,
which probably sum up 95% of all installed news server software.

other than that. out of the aprox 0.8TB of daily data, only 1 3rd of all
articles are nonbinary and are only using 30-45GB of diskspace. As there
are aprox 3 million articles per day, you will soon eat up all your
filedescriptors. (which is why INN switched a couple of years ago)

so news is not a good example to compare it to...
