Hmm.. news? I dont know if any news software still save the articles one by one anymore. Most of them saves it to a binary spool file. At least diablo, INN and the products from highwind (cyclone, typhoon, twister...) uses it, which probably sum up 95% of all installed news server software. other than that. out of the aprox 0.8TB of daily data, only 1 3rd of all articles are nonbinary and are only using 30-45GB of diskspace. As there are aprox 3 million articles per day, you will soon eat up all your filedescriptors. (which is why INN switched a couple of years ago) so news is not a good example to compare it to... /Bjorn -- Users are like bacteria - each one causes a thousand tiny crises until the host finally gives up and dies. _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
