Hm, okay, I stumbled over the term "request" since the _receiving_ party (be it server or client) can't request a retransmit from the _sender_ since he doesn't know that a packet was sent to him that got discarded. But I guess we mean the same thing, so please excuse the confusion. :)

would probably take longer to retransmit the lost packet (with, by then,
outdated information) then to just leave it lost
