I've just recompiled my 2.6.0 kernel removing IO-APIC and notice no difference. The only thing else i'm doing different is that have disabled loadable module support, and i've got my ethernet drivers, ide etc.. all compiled in. I'll see about trying a 2.4.9 kernel this way, and i'll see if I can track down just what patches RH made to their version of this kernel.
