I don't believe it is "difficult" to do on Linux/Fedora, just have to set the kernel option and recompile. This does consume time though. In FreeBSD I just set kern.hz="200" in /boot/loader.conf, and reboot :).
Also, Richy:
We were considering running Fedora 2, and 64bit, but turned away due to the fact AM/AMX/MetaMod/HLGuard/Statsme are not compiled for 64bit. Are you running no mods, did you compile them for 64bit yourself, or did you find a 64bit version that I could not? :)
You will walk away from the benefit of a 64bit OS? Cmon :)
Just run the 32-bit version of the server/mods
Can you run a 64-bit hlds server and a 32-bit metamod? I am guessing no.
YOu can run your 32-bit hlds code on your opterons and still reap benefit though.
