I don't run Intel, so this isnt my particular problem. Using Opteron here and just noticed cpu utilization (for the hlds processes) for my latests centos4.1 build as compared to when the system was Windows 2003 server is much higher. It may be just because the linux build isnt optimized. I don't know. But what I do know is that I need to get something up and running fast so that I can put my servers back on the system and run more than 3 - 20 man servers. So I am building a second box to install Windows 2003 server on then I am calling my old system back from the DC. We have a t1 here so I can mess with compiling my own kernels and trying different distros until I find the one that provides me with the performance I expect. Then when it is done ship it back to the DC and have them ship the Windows 2003 server back so that I can reload it with linux. This assumes I can find/tweak a linux distro to work as I expect it to work. Otherwise I will be buying some additional Windows licenses. _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
