I've experienced the bad bone weights failure on my XP 2600+ based Ubuntu box.
Since i've got X installed, and its the desktop Ubuntu, I tried using Wine to run the windows HLDS for TF2. It works, and I was able to connect and play from another box on my lan. This was late last night, and only for a few hours, so I have no idea how this set up performs for internet connected players. This might not be a good solution for a serious dedicated box, but if you're just looking to mess around, perhaps it will do the trick until you either upgrade or Valve fixes this. It would be nice to know if there is an effort underway to allow some of these older boxes to run TF2 DS. The whole model for hosting this game, other than the professional server providers, seems to hinge on having users provide a server, which unless you're loaded ($$) is more likely to be your old machine, now converted to a linux box. (heh). After all, we just ponied up $50 for a couple of games we already owned + TF2. Is there a reason that the orangebox DS is different than the other source DS? Can the hlds_run script be altered to use one of the older versions with TF2? any help or additional info would be appreciated, thanks, phil _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
