Hi List,

Thanks for the reply.

The asterix's(*) were originally a html <b></b> to embolden the text to
draw attention to the changes i made - - - i guess you received a non-html
version which strips the html tags out and replaces them with, in this case,
asterix's(*)

So, sorry to be a pain again - the answer to number 1) is still needed.

As for number 2, i have figured out was the trouble was - it was the way the
web space was configured somehow. I know this becasue i have swapped the
fast dl server to a friends and it works fine.

But alas - number one is bugging the hell out of me - i want it to run want
i want it to run - not what it wants to run!

Please help - and enjoy your sunday.

Regards,

Patrick

1.) The asterisks (*) around the map name are unnecessary and may be your
problem here.

2.) Proper syntax for sv_downloadurl (put in server.cfg) is sv_downloadurl
"
http://mysite.com/tf"; assuming the TF directory is your main download
directory, keeping the same structure as the TF2 folder. (Eg. orange_x
would
be in ./webroot/tf/maps/cp_orange_x.bsp.bz2) Do not put the .bsp in the
same
folder as the BZ2, it is unnecessary!

 > Hi List,

I'm just getting around to con figging my Linux Team Fortress 2 server

for

general use and i need a few pointers/help/advice/answers - please!

1)
I want the server to quit and then start again but be able to choose

what

map it starts with first. In the ../../orangebox/ folder there is a file
called start.sh that i opened with notepad. It said this:

screen -S server ./srcds_run -game "tf" +maxplayers 24 +map
*cp_dustbowl*-ip
xx.234.xx.69 -port 2xx0 -tickrate 100 -autoupdate +fps_max 800

I changed it to this:

screen -S server ./srcds_run -game "tf" +maxplayers 24 +map
*cp_orange_x*-ip
xx.234.xx.69 -port 2xx0 -tickrate 100 -autoupdate +fps_max 800

I also eliminated dustbowl (and all standard maps for that matter) from
maplist and mapcycle and included orange x in both files.

I have mani-admin on the server which is running ok, and i have gone
through
all the cfg's to see if something is getting in the way, but i think its
all
ok there.

When i quit the server and it restarts - it plays dustbowl and i am

really

stumped as to why. When i had a windows server i changed a similar file
and
it all worked fine. Really want some help on this please!

2)
Fast Downloads (aka sv_downloadurl) - OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG !!! What am i
doing wrong !!!

My dl'url is this:

sv_downloadurl
"http://www.##downloadurl##.com/tf<http://www./#%23downloadurl%23%23.com/tf>

<

http://www./##downloadurl##.com/tf<http://www./#%23downloadurl%23%23.com/tf>

"

PLUS

sv_allowdownload 1

sv_pure 1

The folder structure on my fastdl server is this:

../tf/maps/cp_orange_x.bsp.bz2
../tf/maps/graphs/cp_orange_x.ain

Now for some quirky stuff i have observed.... I have read masses and
masses
on this and came across this through trial and error.

I KNEW i have set up the fastdl server structure correctly based on what

i

have read - so i knew i wasnt that. So guess it has to be the

downloadurl

playing up. I changed the sv_downloadurl to:

sv_downloadurl "mysite.com/tf"

(no forward http, forward slash, colon etc), restarted the server,

changed

map to orange x (because it bloody keeps starting on dustbowl - see
question
one !!) - then i joined the server and expected to dl the orange x
bsp.bz2from the fastdl server or get the dissconected error. To my
surprise the
disconnected error did not happen - but it started to dl the map - but

it

was only a orange_x.bsp not .bsp.bz2 - and the dl was slow (trickle) so

i

guessed it was grabbing it from the game server itself and not my fastdl
server.

To make sure, i renamed the tf folder on my fastdl server (efftively
making
it invisible), kept the sv_downloadurl as "mysite.com/tf" and joined the
game again.

And it again dl'd the orange_x.BSP from my game server and not the

fastdl

server. But the downloadurl contained my bloody fastdl url and the tf
folder
on my fastdl server was renamed !! So wtf is happening!!! Please help -
anyone who joins my server can only play if they have the map in their
clients tf/maps folder.

I have tried every combination - but something is stopping it from
working.....

Please !! - For the love of the list please help me !!!!!!!!!!

Kind Regards,

Patrick
