Yeah, its loooking likely, ive been following this with good reason...

As you mentioned above:

google will be able to match your clicking habits to your SteamID
and know who you really are.

And, no doubt they'll probably be doing this:

I have been working on this since the start of the year, I was going to send
a proposal to Valve - but looks like Google are gonna get in there first.
It's not the complete PDF, but it gives you the idea of where we were
heading.

I did run into larger obstacles, but the reason i got TF2 servers in the
begining was to explore this avenue. I proved it worked, we had a delievery
system where server admins could sign up, and we auto ftp the plugin we use
to show the ads, ftp the ads in, change/update the ads on a per map basis in
case an advertisers needed to change an ad campaign - all wothout the server
admin doing a thing - apart from a manual server restart, everything else
was automatic.

The plugin generated a log file we monitored, and as long as our server
could routinely access the log we could determine the earnings for that
server owner - publisher and advertiser statistics basically.

I bet you any cash, this is what Google are gonna head towards. Oh well,
little guy gets stamped on again.

I knew I shouldnt have sent my partner the pdf through gmail......
