I tried all that stuff at first but it didn't help. I also expected version was set from inside some .so or something, but to my surprise editing steam.inf was the "fix"for this issue.

Hi, We have a few TF2 servers with version 1.0.6.9 and a few on 1.0.7.0. Running a verify_all update check doesn't change the version number and it reports all files up2date. Any idea why this is?
