If they release on Monday PST (Valve time), it would at most be Tuesday for
all of the people that host servers in Kiritimati (the most ahead time
zone).  This leaves about 3 days to come up with a patch or two before the
weekend for the people in Kiritimati.

Really, its not about trying to rush to release the update earlier, but
waiting 2 days (from Friday to Monday) to release it.  It may be that they
plan on there being bugs (http://i53.tinypic.com/bz9cx.jpg) and they want
there to be 2 days (the weekend) for people to find all of the bugs before
they work on a patch.  This is what software developers do, wait until you
have a full (or large) list of bugs and fix them all at one to release 1
patch.
