having a new server / empty ban system will have a lot of cheaters join your server.
in general on a normal server (overseeing bout 5 communities) there is per comm about 2-3 cheaters a week. for good detection of 'm: - replay the demo at ~40% speed, and watch what exactly happens with the crosshair. Most telltales are with that behavior. this is your #1 tool. I repeat, this is your number 1 tool, slow down the replay. - speedhack, know the game, in TF2, all classes have a max speed different between classes (par some bonus weapons like GRU or Equalizer etc, and malus weapons like the Brass Beast barely moving when shooting/spinning). - for wallhack review, I use also the ~40% speed and a script to blink wireframes (sv_cheats 1 needed): alias blinking "r_drawothermodels 2;wait 25;r_drawothermodels 1;wait 75;blinking" blinking tracking thru walls is a telltale, also tactical movements (waiting around the corner to appear and then shoot etc). being experienced in the game helps here too. to know what normal is for ppl. - the hardest to detect are the clickbots, hard to see, hard to keep seeing 'm. Cant vind a vid back that was showing them very brilliantly (anybody?). Basically it clicks the attack button when the crosshair is aimed at a enemy. Need to keep seeing vid to keep "alligned" on what clickbot is, if not experienced yet at it, and even then its hard to split pro players from them. Some shots are just impossible, and this does them. - Crithack: never understood why its not server side decided if its crits, Server decides already if crits are on or off. - nospread: spread weaps, like minigun, natasha, smg, all pellets hit instead of spread (why cant we hear hitsounds of spectated player, and have killfeed higlighted of that spectated player :S) don't be fooled by the particle effects. - Different methods seem to be used, so visually they differ in behavior when reviewing them. - Check regulary youtube for video's showing 'm. once you have viewed a couple hundred of 'm you get easier in reviewing them, and can see a bunch of 'm realtime. having recorded a demo is important, esp if it was disputed etc. >________________________________ >From: Peter Reinhold <[email protected]> >To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list ><[email protected]> >Sent: Wednesday, 24 August 2011, 15:33 >Subject: [hlds_linux] Cheaters, how often do you see them?
