It's around 77k peak at the moment. Which would be (pre-MvM) very high.

In the past it's dropped to around 30-50k in the lulls between updates.
Obviously the initial F2P update saw bigger numbers, but my server was usually full when current players was >50k (given the right time of day)

Given that Valve have all but scrapped their multiplayer servers, you'd expect, if anything, more 3rd party servers to be getting quickplay traffic.

So, the logical answer is, if there are lots of players (there are) and multiplayer servers aren't filling (you're saying they are not) then they must be playing MvM (The only other answer - if they are choosing quickplay, and are playing multiplayer on another server, would be that your servers simply aren't needed - until perhaps Halloween)

There may be some Borderlands 2 effect as well.

Dota 2 is huge now too, although I doubt there are significant numbers of TF2 players that enjoy 40 minutes of right-clicking to not kill stuff :)
