Tom, The error I get is hobosupport requires RubyGems version = 1.2, same as reported by Edmund under Windows Vista.
I'm running under OS X Leopard. I have multiple machines, an iMac and a Macbook Pro. The iMac has gem version 1.2 and hobo installed just fine. On my Macbook Pro I was following the posted directions and ran gem update --system. That updated gem to 1.3.0 and that apparently is what is causing the problem.
