Wouldn't it be cleaner to remove the signup transition from the user lifecycle?
And what specifically don't they like about mongrel? Terminal services doesn't seem to make sense in relation to rails (or web). Passenger is middleware btw, it still uses mongrel or thin to run the actual app server.
