After rebooting, I was able to load/read the file in LibreOffice with
no problems.
Some observations.

The *.docx file is 19.2 MB. I saved it as a *.odt file and it is 314.6
KB.

The original .docx/.odt file showed no figures anywhere in the
documents.

***Errata***
In the title for Chapter 3, there is a 'Y' missing in the word
INTRODUCTOR(Y).

LibreOffice runs on Windows too. It would be a good idea to have it to
use as an .odt
converter, and as a check for compliance to the Open Documents
standards, since
it can convert to/from many commercial file formats to Open Documents
formats.

Though I'm just starting to use Lyx on my first substantial document
with it, I am
beginning to appreciate separating content from layout as two distinct
issues.
I would image that someone who is really versed with using Lyx/Latex
could format
this document so that its continued development and modification could
be done
much easier than using an office suite writer such as Word/
LibreOffice. After all, that's
what is was created to do.
