Torsten, will you need to run your application under Windows at all? Because if you are only intending to do the development under Windows, but then run the application under unix, then I highly suggest you to set up a virtual machine with a unix environment inside. That way you can sidestep a number of potential compatibility issues, including this install issue, since most people develop and run Rails under unix.
