Since we mainly have to live with what is there today (and in the IETF), the
obvious solutions are MDNS and stateful DHCPv6. Neither is 100% ubiquitous and
implemented everywhere but combined they cover a variety of popular operating
systems.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but other alternatives would usually require
host changes which is out of scope here.
