Quoting Ian Campbell: > > My wife and I just returned from seeing 'Armida' at the Met this past > Tuesday evening. What a lovely, rare gem! The horn lines are > exquisite
Scheduled to play on the Saturday matinee broadcast, which has just started as I type this, are Joseph Anderer (1st), Michelle Baker (2nd), Brad Gemeinhardt (3rd), and Barbara Jostlein (4th). (Note that the Sirius broadcast of the opening night of the production had a slightly different line up, with Gemeinhardt playing 1st and Javier Gandara playing 3rd.) I've heard the Sirius broadcast of the opening night, and there are many wonderful spots for the horns. I had never heard the opera before that. Also not to be missed is Lawrence Brownlee, who, IMHO, is (at long last!) the real deal, a worthy--and slow to arrive--successor to Fernando de Lucia. The real star of the show, though, is the orchestra.
