The real question with braces are how necessary are they. If there a serious orthodontic issue, or is just to have everything look perfect. Some procedures are suggested because a payment on the lake house is due. ( I exaggerate a bit.)

One of the biggest advantages to traditional braces over Invisalign is that you can't forget to put braces in and you can't take them out. Invisalign might be quite profitable for general dentists who had been shut out of the orthodontia market, which may color any recommendation they have to use them for kids. Both my kids went through braces -- one plays trumpet and no longer has them, the other plays horn and still has hers. The general rule of thumb we followed for a couple weeks after they were put on was to play just a little bit at a time and to avoid doing anything that hurt. They were cool with that, and within a few weeks pretty much back to normal. The value is that they can be easily removed when practicing or since they are smooth and thin they can also stay on when practicing. I think that decision would be based on how much playing was occurring during the day. They now have versions for teens and possibly kids. They probably don't work for all types of adjustment problems but for they kids they can help they would be a much better option.
