Bob Osmun, IMHO, gives good advice here, i.e., 
have the horn cleaned and brought to specs,  I would 
start with MPC changes since many (or most) horns 
are MPC sensitive.  And, it's the cheapest way to 
eliminate one of the variables.  The slotting issue may 
simply mean the end of the MPC shank is too far away 
(in or out) from the venturi in the leadpipe (mouthpipe).  
Have a competent repair person locate the venturi for 
you and mark the location on the outside of the leadpipe.  
I have that mark on most of my horns and the mark varies 
from 1/4 inch to almost 1 inch from the receiver.  The effect 
is different on each horn and varies in degree but it could be 
the source of your dissatisfaction with slotting on your horn.  
 
It's a cheap way to start and, again, it doesn't make sense 
to experiment on a horn until you know it's clean and within 
specs.
