I develop software on Ubuntu - so you're in like flint there.

Well Richard,

So I sound like a Mac guy, eh? Nah, I use Ubuntu, so that argument can
fly out the window (s). As to your comment about Paxman being large horns, I
agree they're large bore. That's exactly what I was looking for when I
purchased my first Alex. I had in mind either a Paxman or an Alex. In case you
didn't know, the Alex is also big, it's a .475 horn.

Personally, I've never had any complaints trying to blend with an 8D, in
one of my orchestras the Principal plays on an 8D, and we've got a great
blend. In fact, he has told me he wishes we could together more often due to
our blending ability. I think either one of my Alexanders can blend with any
freakin' 8D on the planet. If I remember correctly, the Germans like large
DARK horns!

I guess we do agree on one point; if we wanted 8D's we'd buy em. I
personally don't care for them. I am speaking from experience, since my mother
bought me an N series Elkhart for my high school graduation present and I
played it all the way through college. Being young and in love, I sold the
horn
to muster up enough money to get married (boy, if I were a golfer, I'd
sure as hell would have asked for a Mulligan on that one! Not so much as for
getting married, but what I could have gotten for the horn now). I never
felt comfortable playing on that horn.
