There are the ILOs (Instrument-Like Objects) by
Parrot, Maxtone and Selman.

My friend and list lurker Bob Losin was given one of these horns. It's a K.
Strauss. When Bob got it, the valves were frozen and when he took the valves
apart to find out why they were frozen, there were rusted cast iron ball
bearings at the base of the valve casing. Along with that, the mechanical
linkage to the first valve constantly came apart during usage. The person who
gave it to Bob said "find a good home" for it...What a P.O.S.!!!

I tell the parents of my student's to avoid these things that are listed on
EBay like the plague. On the other hand,  John Kowalchuk brought an Atkinson
when he came to visit Bob  and I, and it was a pretty good horn. I thought it
was well manufactured, and the quality was good as well. I'd have no problem
recommending one of these to a parent on a budget.
